Chimney Rebuild Project
This particular chimney was struck by lightning. The force of the lightning caused nearly every clay flue tile to crack inside the chimney and the resulting pieces to collapse down the chimney. Also damaged was the solid concrete crown and flashing. Capital Chimney came in and performed a thorough assessment of the damage and presented a corrective course of action to bring the chimney up to par.
Recovering From The Storm
One of the first things that needed to be addressed was all the clay flue tile debris clogging the interior of the chimney. We removed the damaged concrete crown so we are able to climb down the chimney to manually remove the debris pieces. After the damaged flue sections were removed we then installed new gas-tight stainless steel liners. These are one-piece continuous stainless steel “tubes” from the top of the smoke chamber to the top of the chimney termination. These liners were then fully insulated with Ther-Mix masonry insulation to ensure zero clearance to combustibles and safety. After these liners were installed a new solid concrete crown was poured to ensure the chimney remains structurally sound and weather tight.
Upgrades & Repairs
Due to the force of the lightning strike and the resulting damage caused by several hundred pounds of clay flue tiles falling down the chimney all the dampers and gas log sets required replacement. Capital Chimney installed new high efficiency top mounted cap/damper systems. These are dampers that get installed on top of the chimney flues and when closed have an air tight seal to keep inside air in, and outside air out. One of the last things to be addressed was the installation of new Hargrove Radiant Series gas log sets. These gas log sets have a high quality multi-burner trays and hand painted ceramic fiber logs that gives all the aesthetic of burning wood without any of the downsides.
